Through the use of MetalSCAN, it is now possible to detect the damage when initiated, monitor the progression of damage, and provide multi-level warning to maintenance and operations organizations before failure occurs.
Originally developed for the F-22 Advanced Tactical Fighter engine, MetalSCAN has been applied to a range of medium and high speed diesels. The product provides state-of-the-art bearing and gear protection and health monitoring for diesels which incorporate sleeve bearings on the crankshaft, connecting rods, and camshafts.
The MetalSCAN sensor is installed in the lubrication system in a suitable bleed flow location ahead of the system filters. The sensor’s signal conditioning electronics can be interfaced through the engine controller, propulsion control system, health monitoring system, or it can be implemented in a standalone configuration depending on the ship’s monitoring system architecture.
