GasTOPS receives 2005 Mechanical Test Technology Innovation of the Year Award from Frost & Sullivan

Ottawa, Canada (September 15, 2005): Frost & Sullivan has awarded GasTOPS Ltd. with the Mechanical Test Technology Innovation of the Year Award at their recent Excellence in Industry Technologies Award Banquet in Naples, Florida. The award was given in recognition of GasTOPS’ MetalSCAN oil debris monitoring technology.

Each year the award is given to a company that has demonstrated technological leadership within its industry. The award recognizes the ability of the company to successfully develop and introduce new technology, formulate a well-designed product family and make significant product performance contributions to the industry.

GasTOPS’ MetalSCAN oil debris monitoring technology was originally developed for the demanding requirements of advanced military aircraft such as the F/A-22 “Raptor” and the Joint Strike Fighter (JSF). Since 1995, GasTOPS has developed and marketed the technology to the industrial gas turbine industry and currently enjoys worldwide success, with thousands of applications in over 20 different countries and millions of hours of operational experience. More recently, the technology has made significant strides in the marine and wind turbine markets protecting marine propulsion units and wind turbine gearboxes.

MetalSCAN is designed to detect and quantify metallic particles in the oil system, which are tell tale signs of damage hidden deep within the engine. MetalSCAN’s quantitative debris measurement can be correlated to the degree of damage on the bearings or gears and can provide maintenance alerts long before there is a risk of total failure. MetalSCAN’s patented full-flow, on-line technology is able to detect both ferrous and non-ferrous metal particles, a capability that can help identify specific component failure.
