GasTOPS Employee Receives Roméo Vachon Award

Ottawa, Canada (May 03, 2005): It is with great pleasure that GasTOPS announces that Aiden Donahue, Program Manager for GasTOPS’ Shearwater operations, was the recent recipient of the Roméo Vachon Award for outstanding achievement in the field of Canadian aviation. The award was presented to Aiden by the Canadian Aeronautics and Space Institute (CASI) at their recent Annual Conference.

The Roméo Vachon Award
The Roméo Vachon Award was introduced in 1969 by the Canadian Aeronautics and Space Institute (CASI) in memory of one of Canada's outstanding bush pilots. It is presented for outstanding display of initiative, ingenuity and practical skills in the solution of a particular challenging problem or series of problems in aeronautics and space activities in Canada. The achievement for which the award is given is of a technological nature, particularly practical skills.

Mr. Aiden Donahue
Aiden has spent most of his career working with, or on behalf of, the Canadian Air Force in the support of fixed- and rotary-wing aircraft. He joined the CAF in 1974 as a Private Airman. Although his training was as an aircraft technician, he developed a lifelong personal interest in the specialized area of condition monitoring and how this might be used to improve aircraft maintenance practices. As a member of the CAF, he played a lead role in the application of vibration monitoring and oil analysis methods to CAF aircraft and in the development of condition-based maintenance procedures based on these new methods. In 1998, Aiden joined GasTOPS to lead our newly launched Integrated Health Monitoring (IHM) program for the Sea King helicopter fleet. Since then, through Aiden’s outstanding individual efforts and his leadership of our IHM team in Shearwater, the IHM program has gained worldwide recognition for its innovative approach and success in improving the reliability and availability of the Sea King fleet.
