Did you know?

That the rate of propagation of a rolling element bearing spall accelerates rapidly when spall length increases beyond one roller spacing and that the size of metallic particles liberated into lubricating oil during a spall event is 100 - 1500 microns.

Machinery Test Facilities

The MetalSCAN product has been widely used in test facility applications to identify and monitor the progression of bearing and/or gear damage during controlled machinery tests. These applications vary from post-production or post-repair pass-off acceptance testing of engines and gearboxes to testing in support of the design, development and qualification of new or modified machinery systems.

To-date, MetalSCAN has been used for machinery test purposes across a wide spectrum of industries including aircraft engines and gearboxes, wind turbine gearboxes, auto race engines and off-road vehicle drive systems. In pass-off test applications, MetalSCAN has been used to establish pass/fail criterion for the acceptance of equipment items leaving the production or repair line. In development test applications, the sensor has been used to investigate and quantify the life, durability and failure characteristics of critical lubricated components and to establish the limits and/or algorithms used for operational health monitoring.
